Analysis of clinical trial data of current treatments for high grade glioma. As consultants to a major pharmaceutical client, our work established a "state of the art" baseline for clinical management of high grade glioma, including glioblastoma multiforme and anaplastic astrocytoma. These data served as an important basis for FDA approval of the chemotherapeutic, Temodar, in the United States and regulatory approval in the European Union. Temodar is now the "standard of care" for these pathologies.
Assessment of the health risks of diesel engine exhaust. Although a cause of respiratory disease, we determined that there is insufficient evidence that it causes lung cancer. We provided public testimony to the State of California and the U.S. EPA.
Assessment of the health risks of consumer grade cosmetic talc products. Our studies demonstrated that talc is not a cause of human cancers. We represented commercial manufacturers and mining interests in risk assessment proceedings conducted by the International Agency on Research for Cancer. Our input resulted in a '2B' rating (e.g. insufficient evidence to determine that cosmetic talc is a cause of cancer). We provided similar representation and testimony to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Mobile phone research. Our members conducted studies showing that mobile phones are not a cause of brain tumors. We provided advice to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration which was used in the FDA labeling of mobile phones.
Research on dairy products. Our studies demonstrated that inadequate calcium/milk intake is a cause of poor bone development in children. These findings were presented at the 2008 Annual Meeting of Experimental Biology.
